Uplit Tree - Illuminares (Vancouver) 2006

So last night I went to Illuminares, which was described by someone else as “a phenomenal free public party in Trout Lake park (with) fire jugglers, stilt walkers, Hare Krishna’s, drum bands, random musicians, wild paper mache lanterns everywhere, and even a modest little fireworks show. Everyone takes part; everyone is part of the show somehow”

There were indeed Hare Krishna’s, and I think that may have been the first time I’ve ever seen them. They fit right in. It was basically a freakshow, and it very much reminded me of living in San Francisco.

Earlier in the day I spent several hours in the New Amsterdam Cafe chatting with two strangers, both of whom were 60+. You really do meet interesting folks there. The gentleman was from TO, so I had a great Leafs chat with him (and then apologized to the young-at-heart woman for talking hockey, a subject she clearly had no interest in - though she claimed to have a good time watching and listening to us because we both became so animated).
