Notes:

Today we arrived a bit earlier (the start time was 1hr earlier than the day before) so that we could try to get decent seats. Ended out in the 18th row, stage right. GA @ Red Rocks is interesting to say the least - they reserve certain rows at the very front and very, very back.

Jackie Greene was OK, nothing to write home about. At least one song sticks out in my memory as being pretty good.

Yonder Mountain… Both nights they were very well received (they’re a CO band) and had something like 1.5 hrs each night, which is pretty damn long for an opening act. About an hour too long for me, but that’s just my taste. It gave Josh and I time to wander around Red Rocks (one at a time so we could save our seats) which was cool because I have no idea if I’ll ever get back. Dear Prudence was the highlight of their set, for me.

Warren and Gregg - I was a bit surprised that they played their set before Gov’t Mule, I kind of expected it to be in between Mule sets. Either way, it was great fun, though rather mellow (expected). If they had played the night before I doubt I’d have appreciated it as much (fucking freezing cold rain). Several lamps were brought out to create an “intimate” atmosphere on the stage. It worked. Highlights: Come On Into My Kitchen, Soulshine.

Gov’t Mule - Though I was very excited to see the Allman Brothers again, and they WERE great, the Gov’t Mule portion of the weekend was what I looked forward to most. And it was totally worth it. At the end of Bad Little Doggie I realized they were about to break into Livin’ Lovin’ Maid - and it was every bit as over-the-top-awesome as I’d hoped. For however long that song was, I totally forgot how cold I was. Feel So Bad w/ Gregg was a surprise, I figured Derek was more likely to make an appearance, but it didn’t happen.

For some reason Gov’t Mule plays I’m A Ram at nearly every show I go to. But this was the first time I got to hear (in person) Love Me Do as the middle. I’ve also wanted to see them play Hunger Strike > DMF > HS for the last few years, and finally got my wish tonight. While I thought that the first few minutes of Hunger Strike was a bit uninspired, Warren quickly made up for it as soon as he hit the chorus - and DMF was probably the best version I’ve heard them play. The crowd really got into it as well. Highlights: Livin’ Lovin’ Maid, HS>DMF>HS, 32/20 Blues, Mule.
